On Newtown’s busy main strip, Thai Pothong welcomes diners into a cavernous, high-ceilinged room lined with Thai statues, intricate carvings and ornate artifacts that make it feel like a grand temple hall. Two towering Transformer replicas stand guard by the entrance, an unexpected touch that guests often stop to photograph. The dining room is vast enough for large parties and family celebrations, yet the space manages to feel calm even at full capacity. Balloons appear at birthday tables, staff snap keepsake photos of the guests of honor, and the warm, attentive hospitality has kept regulars returning for decades.
